Participants will learn the Ancient Art of the South African trance dance. The trance dance is one of the main methods in Southern Africa for healers to connect to the divine and spirit worlds. It involves shaking the body in a particular way and listening to the heart beat. This dance has been practiced without cessation for thousands of years. John will teach participants to ‘shake their bones’, awaken their intuition and open their hearts. It is a powerful way to connect to one another, our Ancestors, the world around us and our Dreams.

John will be available for private spiritual counseling ceremonies at Atlan Center in White Salmon, WA on Oct. 10th following the retreat. The ceremonies will involve either divination sessions, throwing the bones in the traditional South African way, OR dream interpretation, OR plant healing with medicinal plants.

John will introduce his ‘Way of the Leopard teachings’. He will talk about the importance of connecting with your senses as a way to still the mind and awaken intuition.

The Leopard is one of the main totem animals in Southern African traditional healing. It represents raw, intuitive intelligence and interconnectedness with the natural world. The Leopard reminds healers of always listening to their body as a way to help harmonise people with themselves and the natural world.

In this half day weekend workshop at New Renaissance, John will draw on the ancient art of tracking and South African indigenous technology, Sangoma wisdom, to help people connect with their spirits and intuition.  The weekend begins with a traditional ceremony to connect with ones’ ancestors.

Nature is a mirror, a mirror to our natural, pure and unsullied selves. Through watching nature with a clear eye we learn to walk with greater dignity, purpose and clarity. In this evening’s talk John will provide us insight as to the ways our encounters with nature can offer synchronicities that can open us to our natural wisdom. The call of a bird or crash of waves can break through our thinking minds and bring us home, to ourselves. John will use the call of nature to help people realize their innate wisdom. We understand the symbolism of night dreams, the messages available to us for revelation and healing.  So too, our encounters with nature can teach and heal.

Finding your soul’s purpose through dynamic meditation in the Southern African Medicine tradition.

This special movement meditation at the Asclepion is guided by visiting South African spiritual teacher John Lockley.

John will lead the group through a grounding meditation, then teach the trance dance, in two hours of deep connection through the heartbeat and the body, with traditional African drumming and movements.
