I just arrived in the Okavango Delta for our 4th year running ‘Dreams & Tracking’ Retreats. Many memories and experiences to recount. I just heard about 2 old male lions who we have visited yearly as part of the predator program. They stopped eating and were scheduled to be euthanised. The day before, they escaped their enclosure and stood outside the room where I normally stay and ROARED like they were born to roar. 🦁
During our retreats the lions would roar three times a day. The land would shake and we would be given a new opportunity to wake up. It felt like my time in a South Korean Buddhist temple when the Buddhist monks would chant and play their gongs three times a day. These beautiful old lions turned our simple retreat into an African temple! So with a sad and joyful heart I bid these two Kings of the African Bushveld a fond farewell ! And I thank them from the bottom of my heart for sharing their wisdom and magic; for teaching us each time they roared that we are all bound together in spirit and electricity, in a sublime, primordial way. Chamagu amakhulu !🦁 (Blessings great ones).
There is nothing like the deep guttural roar of a lion to know that you are alive and you are not in control, nature is. The heart that beats in your chest is the same heart that beats inside the lion. The electrical, elemental currents of life force percolate in the same sublime way. Can you feel it? 💓
I will be running my second webinar on Sat 2nd March on the series ‘Navigating Altered States of Consciousness’. I will dedicate the webinar to the LION KINGS and I will share some teachings about the LIONS ROAR, and how sound can open the doorway to the spirit world or dreamtime.
I will also share some African Sangoma techniques to connect with your inner stream of consciousness through working with the sun. As we do this we open up a portal inside ourselves, opening the potential to experience altered or trance states. It is very simple, but like all simple things we have to train and condition ourselves through concentration, dedication and courage. Afterwards it becomes like a reflex. This reflex is akin to what we in South Africa speak about as ‘The bush telegraph’; that ancient way of communicating via mental telepathy, before the advent of cell phones 😊 . The bush refers to the African bushveld (see image above) where the divine communicates through all of life; be they insects like ants, birds, lions or even people like you and me.
