My heart breaks at the senseless death of yet another defenceless African American, at the hands of US police officers. I, like many, feel outraged. I stand here in South Africa in solidarity with George Floyd’s family and community. I also echo their call for peaceful protest as thousands of people around the world demand justice and equality for all, irrespective of culture, creed or privilege.
It's important at this time that we not only show our support for change, but that we also take action on a personal level to 'be the change'. That means listening, with an open heart, to the experiences of others across racial and cultural divides, and lobbying for legislation that brings about justice for real and lasting change.
In South Africa ‘Ubuntu’ means humanity and a key part of this is we all have red blood; we are all irrevocably connected & we can never forget that. R.I.P George Floyd 🙏🏼. 🙌🏼 🙌🏻 🙌🏿 🙌.
